Military Zone stages outstanding performance to win Gosford Guineas

Son of Epaulette becomes his sire’s fourth Stakes winner

A brilliant victory in the Listed Gosford Guineas on Friday has made Military Zone the latest Stakes winner for his sire Epaulette.

Military Zone joins the Australian bred Soqrat, a dual G1 winner in South Africa, and the fillies Khulaasa and Meryl among Epaulette’s black-type winners.

Successful in quality races twice before his latest win, Military Zone was having his sixth start in the Guineas and appeared to be facing a difficult task when conceding the leaders six lengths at the 500m.

But the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt quickly circled the field to be challenging for the front within 200m and went to the line 1-1/2 lengths clear and under a hold to beat Terminology and Tell Me.

Epaulette was a dual G1 winner in a racing career that also included a G3 win and a further two G1 placings.

The son of Commands stood the past southern hemisphere season at Darley’s Kelvinside, NSW.
