McLaren gives Exceed And Excel another juvenile Stakes winner

Colt impresses with debut Rosehill win

Exceed And Excel’s record as the most prolific producer of Stakes-winning juveniles at stud anywhere received another boost with the victory of McLaren at Rosehill on Saturday, 2 February.

McLaren’s debut success in the G3 Canonbury Stakes made him Exceed And Excel’s 154th individual stakes winner, almost half of whom are two-year-olds.

In a faultless display, McLaren showed both speed and tractability to race on the pace and then respond resolutely when called on at the 200m.

After racing three lengths clear he was eased down in the final few strides to win by a length from Spring Loaded.

Bred by Gerry Harvey, McLaren is from the Encosta De Lago mare Serenada, a half-sister to the G2 winner First Command (Commands).

Exceed And Excel stood the latest southern hemisphere season at Kelvinside in New South Wales.
