Lonhro brings up 16th Stakes winner

Obsequious returns from a spell to dominate first up at Randwick

Jumping from the inside barrier, talented Lonhro filly Obsequious resumed from a spell to take the G3 San Domenico Stakes by over a length from the favourite Solar Charged, with G1 Golden Slipper placegetter Decision Time finishing a further two-and-a-quarter lengths away in third.

Returning from an 18 week spell, the Peter Snowden-trained filly recorded an impressive barrier trial win a few weeks back at Rosehill, suggesting that she was capable of a very good first up performance.

Jockey Tim Clark allowed the filly to find her feet, before working her way along the rail to sit in second position behind the leader Solar Charged.

Racing in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed, Obsequious poured the pressure onto the leader as the field turned for home and in a matter of strides it was clear the Lonhro filly had the advantage, edging away to record her first Stakes win.

Becoming the 16th individual Stakes winner for her recently crowned leading third-season sire Lonhro, Obsequious was bred by Woodlands Stud and is the first foal out of the winning Commands mare Sycophant.

With the San Domenico producing some excellent future G1 winners including Duporth, Gold Edition, Charge Forward, Regimental Gal, Testa Rosa and General Nediym, the future for Obsequious looks bright as she is now likely to head towards the Princess Series, with the G3 Silver Shadow Stakes her next target.

Expected to cover an exceptional line of mares this season including triple G1 Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva, Lonhro will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside property at $88,000 including GST alongside his G1-winning son Denman, who will cover his debut season at $38,500 including GST.
