Guineas victory for son of Exceed And Excel

Jabali triumphs in G2 Queensland Guineas at Doomben

Runner-up to his paternal half-sister Earthquake in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes last year, three-year-old Exceed And Excel colt Jabali broke his maiden in style at Doomben June 6, finishing powerfully to win the G2 Queensland Guineas.

After settling midfield in the early stages, jockey Jim Byrne came to the centre of the track on Jabali at the top of the straight and the son of Exceed And Excel finished far too powerfully for his rivals.

Bred by Andy Calvert, Jabali is out of Listed-placed King Of Kings mare Balalaika, a daughter of G2 winner Love Of Mary and half-sister to Stakes winner Miss Scaramanga. Balalaika has an unraced two-year-old son by Denman named Windchaser, a weanling three-quarter sister to Jabali by Helmet and was covered again last spring by Denman.

A century of Stakes winners for Exceed And Excel is now even closer, with Jabali becoming his sire’s 98th Black Type winner.

Exceed And Excel will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST alongside his G2-winning son Sidestep who will stand his debut season at a fee of $11,000 inc. GST. At Northwood Park, Exceed And Excel’s record-breaking Caulfield Guineas winner Helmet will stand at $33,000, while another of his G2-winning sons, Kuroshio, will stand at $8,800 in. GST.
