Different Gravy came from second-last at the home turn to score a dominant victory in the Listed TAB Trophy at Flemington on Tuesday, 4 November to continue a fantastic winning run for the progeny of Ghaiyyath.
Trained by Henry Dwyer at Ballarat and patiently ridden by in-from jockey Mark Zahra, Different Gravy swamped Brave Danza and Obvious to win running away by two lengths in a respectable 1 minute 51.04 seconds for 1,800m on the Soft 5 surface.
Bred and owned in Queensland by K. McCormick, Different Gravy is out of the Medaglia d’Oro mare, Venerated.
The mare also has a juvenile half-brother to Different Gravy by Earthlight named Mr Fluorescent.
Different Gravy put the writing on the wall with a narrow second in the Listed Hill Smith Stakes over 1,800m at Morphettville on 18 October and Dwyer believes he could be a G1 ATC Derby competitor next autumn.
The gelding now has two wins and two placings from seven starts for prize-money earnings of $171,000.
Ghaiyyath only commenced stud duties in 2021 and is the leading second-year sire in Australia this season with nine winners from only 22 starters.
Outstanding colt Observer led all the way to win the G1 VRC Derby 2,500m at Flemington just last Saturday, with Freedom Flame, Yum, My Highness and The Padre (two) all winning Stakes races around the world in recent weeks.
Ghaiyyath won four G1 races and overall has now sired 65 winners of 110 events, including nine Stakes winners of 12 Black-Type races.
