Fulbright shines at Sandown

Exceed And Excel colt adds his second Black type win with victory in the Fortune Stakes

Fulbright, a three-year-old son of Exceed And Excel justified favouritism at Sandown on 19 September, putting up a gutsy performance to win the one-mile Fortune Stakes.

Mark Johnston’s charge was settled in second position under Silvestre de Sousa and taking up the running two furlongs from home, battled impressively to win by a neck.

This was his seventh career win and second at Stakes level, having won the Woodcote as a juvenile. He is now likely to step up again in class to Group level  and holds entries in the G2 Joel Stakes, due to take place at Newmarket later this month and the G3 Concorde Stakes at Tipperary on 7 October.

Bred by R F and S D Knipe, Fulbright is out of the winning Fairy King mare Lindfield Belle, making him a half-brother to smart sprinter Baltic King and G3 winner Domingues.

Exceed And Excel is sire of a further 15 Stakes winners in 2012, headed by G1 winner Excelebration and two-year-old Group winners Heavy Metal and Bungle Inthejungle. He stands at Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 including GST.
