Fillies in demand at Gold Coast

Daughters of Exceed And Excel and Elusive Quality make solid prices on opening day Magic Millions Weanling Sale

The first session of the Magic Millions Weanling Sale at the Gold Coast saw $310,000 paid for an Exceed And Excel filly from the Swettenham Stud draft. A daughter of the unraced Alpine Spirit (Kenmare), who is a half-sister to Bill Stutt Stakes winner Schubert and Abonnement, the dam of young Darley stallion Gonski, the filly was bought by Michael Wallace, who also went to $100,000, another filly by Exceed And Excel out of Cash For Comment (Spectrum). She is a descendant of the legendary matriarch Eight Carat, ancestress of the likes of Octagonal, Tristalove and Commands.

Of the two other Exceed And Excel youngsters on offer at the opening session, both also from Swettenham Stud’s consignment, lot 87, a filly out of Boardwalk Bell (Belotto), fetched $170,000 when knocked down to Vin Cox Bloodstock while Braith Vidler paid $100,000 for a bay daughter of Our Game Plan.

The same consignors also offered a daughter of Elusive Quality from the Sir Tristram mare Abbotswood, which changed hands for $180.000. A Rothwell Park-consigned Elusive Quality filly out of triple winner Terrenora (Encosta De Lago) was another six-figure lot, selling for $130,000 towards the end of the session.
