Faint Perfume set to show she’s the Boss

Shamardal’s Group One-winning filly to be ridden by champion jockey in the Caulfield Cup

In a coup for the connections of dual G1-winning Shamardal filly Faint Perfume, it was recently announced that leading-jockey Glen Boss will partner the Bart Cummings-trainee in October’s G1 Caulfield Cup.

Currently one of the early favourites for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup double, Faint Perfume has the perfect credentials for the race. History has shown that Oaks winning fillies during their classic year have an excellent record in the 2400m staying contest, with the lastest mare to win the race being the New Zealand-bred Ethereal, who also went on to win that year’s Melbourne Cup.

From a pedigree point of view, Faint Perfume is out of a mare by Zabeel, a leading sire of Cups winners, while she also comes from the family of 3200m Brisbane Cup winner Danestorm – both of which add further positives as to why she is being considered as a leading chance in two of Australia’s most internationally acclaimed races.

Should Glen Boss follow the filly into the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday in Novemeber, her chances are sure to be high once again based on Boss’ record in the race. Having ridden the great Makybe Diva to three sensational wins, Boss knows exactly what it takes to win Australian’s greatest race.

Announced yesterday that the great Makybe Diva will visit leading third-season sire Lonhro this season, it only seems like yesterday that Makybe Diva was welcomed back to scale to the thunderous applause after her third Cup success.

As we head towards the close of the 2009/2010 racing season this Saturday, Shamardal has achieved a winners to runners ratio higher than any other stallion in the current top-twenty behind only Lonhro, while his Stakes winners to runners ratio of over 11% is the highest of any of the Australian-based top-twenty. Sire of 16 Stakes horses worldwide, Shamardal is also the sire of dual G1-winning French three-year-old colt Lope de Vega

Unbeaten on turf, the four-time G1 winner Shamardal will stand his fifth season at Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 including GST.
