Exceed And Excel tops opening day at Inglis Premier

Shamardal leads the way for first-season sires

Exceed And Excel has made a truly outstanding start with his first crop of runners, so it was little surprise that yearlings by the young Darley stallion were in demand during the opening day of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale on 2 March.

His five yearlings sold averaged $205,000 and he was also responsible for the session topper when Gai Waterhouse went to $380,000 to secure his colt from Oubladee, a winning half-sister to multiple G2 winner and G1 placegetter Zeya.

Shamardal
(pictured), whose first yearlings sell this year, recorded the second highest average of the day ($145,000) and the highest overall average for a freshman sire. His top price was $210,000 for a colt from VRC Oaks and VATC Thousand Guineas winner Magical Miss who was bought by Patinack Farm.

The sale continues today.
