Exceed And Excel filly Yattarna leads all the way in G3 James HB Carr Stakes at Randwick

Improving three-year-old lands her first Stakes race in tenacious style

Improving Exceed And Excel three-year-old Yattarna defied all challengers with a strong front-running display to win the seven-furlong G3 James HB Carr Stakes at Randwick on 116 April.

Jockey Glyn Schofield sent the James Cummings-trained filly straight to the front and although the big field were closing late, Yattarna showed determination to hold on for a half-length victory

It was Yattarna’s second win in nine starts and her first in Stakes company, becoming her sire's 111th individual Black type winner.

Bred by Kambula Stud in South Australia, Yattarna is out of Stakes-winning Umatilla mare Umaquest, who has produced four winners from four foals to race. Yattarna is her dam’s first Stakes winner.

Exceed And Excel, who stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €40,000 October 1st SLF has sired 13 Black type performers so far this year. They include three-time G1 winner Flamberge, who won the G1 Oakleigh Plate and the G1 William Reid Stakes in consecutive starts.
