Elite Street gives Street Boss another G1 winner in the Winterbottom Stakes

Rising Star keeps the winners coming for leading son of Street Cry in Australia

The ever-growing presence of Street Boss in both the United States and Australia has again been verified thanks to the victory of Elite Street in the G1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot in Perth on Saturday, 28 November.

Running for the first time in a Stakes race and a veteran of only seven starts prior to Saturday, Elite Street put himself into a forward position from the jump and stayed there throughout the 1,200m race to beat Celebrity Queen by a neck.

While not unheralded, the win came as something of a surprise due mainly to Elite Street’s lack of experience.

But the four-year-old took his chances, giving trainer Dan Morton and jockey Brad Rawiller reward for their faith in the horse who becomes Street Boss’s sixth G1 winner.

“It was fair enough that he wasn’t one of the favourites, but he deserved to be there, he proved that,” Morton said.

For Rawiller the win followed two weeks in COVID-19 quarantine after travelling from Victoria to Western Australia in search of a winner.

“I’ve been looked after so well and it's great to win on a local horse for local people,” Rawiller said.

Elite Street was bred by Anita Vale Stud who retains a share of the ownership of the four-year-old who is out of the winning Exceed And Excel mare Elite Ateates, a daughter of the multiple Stakes winner Ateates.

Elite Street joins The Quarterback as Street Boss’s second Australian G1 winner. His win follows that of the same sire’s two-year-old Anamoe in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes in Melbourne earlier this month.

Street Boss, whose Australian stud duties are performed at Northwood Park in Victoria, will return mid-Dcember to Jonabell Farm in the coming northern hemisphere season.

This G1 result comes just in time as yearling buyers commence 2021 yearling inspections in the coming weeks and will take comfort in knowing Street Boss' best books are coming through, and they're performing.
