Doom is Champion

Doctor Doom leads all the way in G1 Spring Champion Stakes

Doctor Doom made all the running in a brave performance to win the G1 Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m at Randwick, giving Domesday his fifth Stakes winner.

Having won two of his six starts prior to his Spring Champion Stakes success, the three-year-old travelled comfortably for the first 1600 metres before fighting hard over the final 1400m to prevail in a driving finish.

Doctor Doom had finished second in the G2 Gloaming Stakes over 1800 metres at his previous start before the gelding found the extra 200m to his liking. Doctor Doom became Domesday's second G1 winner after Pressday won the G1 TJ Smith Classic over 1600m during his juvenile season in Brisbane last year.

Trainer Guy Walter said that Doctor Doom would head to the spelling paddock before returning for an autumn campaign geared towards the G1 Randwick Guineas and G1 Rosehill Guineas.

Raced by his breeders, the Unique Style Syndicate, Doctor Doom's dam, Orcym, foaled another colt by Domesday last year as well as a colt by G2 Silver Stakes winenr Shaft recently at Redbank North.

Domesday stands at Darley's Northwood Park in Victoria for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST).
