Detours produces dominant display at Caulfield

Ad Valorem mares becomes the seventh Stakes winner for her sire

Starting first-up from a spell after being scratched the week prior, Ad Valorem mare Detours recorded her third win from four first-up runs, powering over the top of a class field to take the G3 Sportingbet Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield by two lengths on 22 September.

A runner-up last campaign in the Listed Canberra Guineas, the Peter Snowden-trained mare was set to start in the Listed Sheraco Stakes at Warwick Farm the week prior before a last minute decision to send the mare to Melbourne for this race instead.

On the limit weight, the mare settled not too far off the leaders and as the field cornered for home, jockey Glen Boss sent the mare forward, taking the lead before the post to cost to victory – giving the jockey victory in the three races on the day, including two at Stakes level.

Bred by Darley, Detours is out of the Stakes performed Octagonal mare Hairpin from the family of the G3-winning Strategic gelding Aichi and Listed-winning Commands mare Brasileira.

The sire of seven Stakes winners including G2 winners Free Wheeling and Pied A Terre as well Uate, the runner-up to Darley’s first-season sire Helmet (Exceed And Excel) in the G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes, Ad Valorem is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST).
