Darley Australia reduces fees

Street Cry returns to Australia; New Approach, who will stand at Northwood Park heads line-up of six exceptional new stallions for 2009

Darley Australia has announced the stud fees of its 27 stallions for the 2009 breeding season.

Heading up the roster are two of the world’s hottest young stallions, Street Cry and Exceed And Excel. Sire of G1 winners from each of his first three crops including eight from his first two, Street Cry’s Australian runners are highlighted by Australia’s highest-rated three-year-old and outstanding G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Whobegotyou and G1 colt Predatory Pricer. Sensational Australian sprinter Exceed And Excel was last year’s Champion first season sire and is also sire of G1 Blue Diamond winner Reward For Effort from his second crop. Both stallions will stand this season at Darley’s Kelvinside stud at Aberdeen in NSW at a fee of $110,000 (inc. GST).

Darley’s roster will be bolstered once again in 2009 with the addition of six first-season stallions. New Approach ($33,000 inc. GST) European Champion two-year-old, multiple G1-winning three-year-old and the world’s highest rated racehorse of 2008, will head the new stallions and stand at Darley’s Northwood Park in Victoria. Joining the shuttle is G1-winning two-year-old and  the best three-year-old in the world in 2007, Authorized ($27,500 inc. GST); European Champion juvenile and dual G1 winner Teofilo ($22,000 inc. GST) who retired with his unbeaten record intact; Street Boss ($16,500 inc. GST), America’s multiple record-breaking and multiple G1 winning speed horse by Street Cry; Europe’s Champion first-season sire of 2008, Kheleyf ($27,500 inc. GST); and Musket ($11,000 inc. GST) Makybe Diva’s G2-winning three-quarter brother by Redoute’s Choice.

Henry Plumptre, Darley’s Managing Director in Australia said: “We are very much looking forward to the upcoming season and are delighted to be offering our clients a roster of world-class stallions of unprecedented variety. Our fees have been lowered after serious deliberation to ensure breeders can achieve a rewarding outcome in the future at the sales or on the racecourse.  The exceptions, whose fees will remain unchanged from their 2008 levels, are Exceed And Excel and Strategic whose progeny have had remarkable success in the last year. ”

“Sheikh Mohammed’s decision to return Street Cry to Australia for the first time in three years is our key announcement.  Street Cry is a Champion in America and will be covering a significant number of Sheikh Mohammed’s G1- winning mares in Australia this year.”

He continued, “Our six new stallions are an exceptional group of horses who bring further strength and depth to our roster.  We are pleased to announce that New Approach will be standing at our Victorian stud alongside Reset who has been in strong demand since relocating there.  Authorized and Teofilo were both G1-winning two-year olds and Authorized was the best horse in the world at three.  Street Boss was very fast.  He won two Grade Ones over six and seven furlongs and broke an American record in the six - he looks made for Australia. Kheleyf surpassed Exceed And Excel in the first-season sire championship in Europe last year siring more winners than any other stallion.  Musket is a superb-looking horse, a G2 winner and a three-quarter brother in blood to the greatest race mare Australia has ever seen.”
