Cylinder showed courage and class to squeeze through a narrow gap in the home straight at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 9 September to win the G2 Run To The Rose.
The Golden Slipper runner-up, a winner of the G3 Vain Stakes at Caulfield first-up last month, raced in fifth spot for jockey Nash Rawiller, who searched desperately for a run in the home straight.
The three-year-old son of Exceed And Excel (AUS) and Circular (AUS) finally shouldered Don Corleone out of the way and sprinted fast to grab Moravia in the final bound. Nadal finished well to grab third place.
The James Cummings-trained colt, who took his record to four wins and three placings from eights starts, is now on track to tackle the G1 Golden Rose over 1,400m at Rosehill on 23 September.
The Everest, the G1 Caulfield Guineas and G1 Coolmore Stakes are other possible targets,
Exceed And Excel is a prolific sire of winners (1766), including 210 individual Stakes-race winners of 388 Black-Type races.
His progeny have amassed prize-money earnings of more than A$261 million.
Exceed And Excel heads the stallion roster at Darley’s Kelvinside property in the NSW Hunter Valley, standing for a service fee of $132,000 inc GST.
