Balk doesn’t hesitate when winning Mark McDermott Stakes

Son of Street Boss pulls away in stretch for convincing victory

The Elkstone Group’s Balk, a two-year-old gelded son of Street Boss, earned his first Stakes victory when he rallied from just off the pace to win the six furlong Mark McDermott Stakes at Presque Isle Downs. It was the second career win for Balk, who has won two of four career starts.

Breaking alertly in the eight-horse field, Balk sat just off the pace set by stablemate, Total Futbol. As the field hit the top of the lane, Balk rallied between horses to take the lead, and pulled away through the stretch for the victory.

Balk races as a homebred for The Elkstone Group, and is out of the Dixie Union mare, Countingoncarolyn. His second dam, Kota, captured the Listed Anna M. Fisher Debutante and was second in the G2 Golden Rod Stakes.

Street Boss is the sire of 14 Black type performers to date in 2015, among them recent G2 Amsterdam Stakes winner Holy Boss and G3 El Camino Real Derby winner Metaboss. The stallion has also been represented by G1 winners Danza and Capo Bastone.
