Connections of Harry Angel sprinter Watchme Win did just that after the Adelaide gelding won the Listed FISHER Stakes (1,200m) on Champions Day, his second start at Flemington in the space of the week.
A three-time Stakes winner, the Blake Shinn-ridden Watchme Win had a 1.25 lengths to spare over runner-up Inkaruna with Photograph another neck away in third.
He was Harry Angel’s second Flemington Melbourne Cup Carnival winner for the week.
Bred by the Toorak Thoroughbred Breeding Trust and trained by Andrew Gluyas at Morphettville, Watchme Win was a $160,000 Inglis Melbourne Yearling Sale purchase.
“It’s been a long time between drinks for him, but he gives us a reason to have one tonight, so it’s good,” Gluyas said post-race.
“He’s very honest, always around the mark. Back to this grade has helped him today. He got sucked along in the run and popped out, took a small margin of a gap to get through. We’re very excited.”
Now the winner of seven races is out of Sepoy mare Watchmespin, a Melbourne city winner who is also the dam of the Black-Type-placed Point And Shoot.
Watchme Win’s three-year-old sister, also by Harry’s Angel, won her only start at Kembla Grange in August, signalling there is more to come from the family.
Harry Angel has enjoyed a good spring with five southern hemisphere Stakes winners including G1 Sir Rupert Clare Stakes winner Angel Capital, G3 winners War Machine, Buggsy, Watchme Win and Harry’s Yacht who won on VRC Oaks day.
He stands at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 including GST.
