Poetry in motion

As a G1-winning miler who was also a Group-winning juvenile, and a son of none other than Dubawi, there are narratives aplenty when it comes to Darley’s newest shuttle stallion

Poet’s Voice caught the eye almost from the moment he set foot on the racecourse, breaking his maiden in Newmarket Conditions race by no fewer than ten lengths.

The handsome bay followed up with a close-up third in the competitive G3 Acomb Stakes at York on his Stakes debut, before recording his first Group win in impressive style in the G2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. Poet’s Voice rounded off his juvenile campaign with a fourth place in the G1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, beaten just two lengths.

Returning to form at three, he bettered his older rivals to take the G2 Celebration Mile by four and a half lengths before winning Europe’s greatest mile race – the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes – in scintillating style, flying home to beat multiple G1 winner Rip Van Winkle by a nose.

In winning this prestigious contest, Poet’s Voice emulated his grandsire – the great Dubai Millennium, who had won this race 11 years previously.

From the first crop of sire sensation Dubawi, Poet’s Voice also boasts an impressive dam line, being out of Bright Tiara, a full sister to Chief Honcho who sold for US$3 million at auction. Bright Tiara is also dam of the high-earning G1 winner and Black type producer Gold Tiara. Poet’s Voice is also from the family of two-time Champion sire in the US, Exclusive Native.

Poet’s Voice retired to Dalham Hall Stud in 2011 and was rewarded fantastic first northern hemisphere book that includes 36 Group winners or producers, of which four are G1 winners and 11 are mares that have produced G1 performers.

His sire Dubawi is already enjoying another banner year, following Monterosso’s outstanding victory in the Dubai World Cup. He has now sired eight individual G1 winners and has produced Group winners from 1000-2400m. Dubawi’s offspring have also made an impression in the southern hemisphere, with both Happy Archer and Secret Admirer succeeding at the highest level.

With his success on the track, combined with his outstanding looks and top-class pedigree, hopes are high at Darley that Poet’s Voice can become the next flag bearer for the Dubai Millennium dynasty.

Poet's Voice will stand the forthcoming southern hemisphere breeding season at Darley Kelvinside, and for any further queries please contact the Darley Nominations team by clicking here.
