Teofilo colt wins German Derby-Trial

Listed victory brings Black Arrow’s tally to three wins from four starts

Three-year-old Teofilo colt Black Arrow extended his record to two Listed wins and a Group Three placing from just four runs following his victory in the 2200m Derby-Trial at Hannover.

Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock and trained in Germany by Andreas Wohler, Black Arrow made a winning debut over a mile last August and chased this up with victory in the Listed Winterfavorit-Trial in Cologne the following month. He brought the curtain down on his juvenile season by finishing runner-up in the G3 Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen at Krefeld in November before bouncing back with a win on his seasonal debut on Sunday.

His dam, the Diesis mare Fann, won over 1800m at Sandown as well as being Listed-placed and fourth in the G2 Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot. Black Arrow is her first foal and his full-brother was sold at Tattersalls’ October Sale last year for 240,000gns to Peter and Ross Doyle.

Teofilo, who stands at Kelvinside, NSW, for $22,000 (inc. GST), notched a new black-type performer from his first northern hemisphere crop on Sunday when three-year-old filly Cleofila took third in the Listed Salsabil Stakes at Navan in Ireland. He is also the sire of G1 Dewhurst Stakes winner Parish Hall and fellow Classic contender Light Heavy, as well as Group Three winner Remember Alexander and Listed winner Teolane.
