Stakes winners for Shamardal and Canny Lad

Three-year-old fillies reign on the Gold Coast

Femina Fashion and Graceful Anna both landed Listed contests at the Gold Coast on Saturday for Shamardal and Canny Lad respectively.

Three-year-old Femina Fashion became the eleventh individual Stakes winner for her young sire Shamardal when taking out the 1400m Gold Coast Bracelet. Lonhro filly Status Quo took third and has also been runner-up in the G3 Adrain Knox Stakes this season.

Femina Fashion, who was bred by K Thomas and K Dixon, is a daughter of the Jeune mare So Tempted and has now racked up three wins in her career to date.

It has been a good week for Shamardal, who currently sits in the third slot on the second-crop sires’ table. In Europe his Irish-bred daughter Elle Shadow landed a Listed trial for the German Oaks at Mulheim while British-bred Acquainted ran second in the Cheshire Oaks and could now head to Royal Ascot for the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes.

Later in the day, Canny Lad’s daughter Graceful Anna made a winning return in the Listed Silk Stocking over 1200m and Commands filly Kanzan brought up a Woodlands Stud-bred quinella when finishing half a length back in second.
