Stakes double for Cape Cross

Everbright wins G3 at Sha Tin while Saphira's Cross follows Ouija Board with victory in Newmarket's Pretty Polly Stakes

Everbright and Saphira's Cross recorded a brace of Stakes winners for their sire Cape Cross on Sunday at Sha Tin and at Newmarket on 1000 Guineas day.

Five-year-old gelding Everbright notched back-to-back wins in Hong Kong's G3 Queen Mother Memorial Cup run over 2400m. The New Zealand-bred out of Vice Regal mare Anna's Choice has now won five times.

In the UK, Saphira's Cross, whose only previous start had been a winning one over 1800m on the all-weather track at Wolverhampton, proved she is a filly on the up when landing the 2000m Listed Pretty Polly Stakes, a race won en route to an Oaks double by her paternal half-sister Ouija Board.

The three-year-old, who was bred by Gainsborough Stud from All Our Hope (Gulch) now has Royal Ascot in her sights.

Dubai Destination had a G3 runner-up in Germany when Lancetto went close in the Fruhjahrs-Preis des Bankhaus Metzier (2000m) at Frankfurt.
