Social Paranoia breaks through to win the $600,000 Dueling Grounds Derby

Three-year-old colt becomes the third Stakes winner of the weekend for his sire, Street Boss

Social Paranoia overhauled Ry’s the Guy and Temple in deep stretch to win the Listed $600,000 Exacta Systems Dueling Grounds Derby by a half-length at Kentucky Downs Sept. 8.

The three-year-old colt capped off a great weekend for his sire, Street Boss, joining Totally Boss (G3 Runhappy Turf Sprint) and Lady Alida (In the Breeze Stakes) as his third Stakes winner of the weekend.

Social Paranoia broke alertly and tracked the longshots Temple and Ry’s the Guy from third as he hugged the inside rail through the early stages of the turf marathon.

Ry’s the Guy took a slight lead over Temple with just over a furlong to run. Jockey Jose Ortiz shifted Social Paranoia to the outside, taking aim on the two leaders. The Street Boss colt quickly hit another gear and began quickly gobbling up ground out in the center of the course as he zeroed in on the front-runners. Social Paranoia put away his rivals nearing the wire, winning by a half-length over Ry’s the Guy.

Social Paranoia was bred in Kentucky by Mineola Farm II LLC & Silent Grove Farm LLC. He is out of the Deputy Minister mare Shutterbug, making him a full brother to Dekabrist, who set a new track record at Gulfstream Park when winning the Kodiak Island Stakes. Shutterbug is a half-sister to Multiple Graded stakes winner Fantastic Fellow (G3 La Jolla Stakes, G3 Oak Tree Breeders’ Cup Mile, etc.), and hails from the immediate family of Champion Henbit.

Street Boss is the sire of over 35 Stakes winners. In addition to Social Paranoia, Street Boss has sired 2019 Stakes winners Totally Boss (G3 Runhappy Turf Sprint, Kentucky Downs Preview Turf Sprint), Fair Maiden (Catch A Glimpse Stakes), and Lady Alida (In the Breeze Stakes, Treasure Coast Stakes).
