Henny Hughes two-year-old earns third victory in a row

Henny Hughes two-year-old colt She Digs Me earned his third victory in a row, this time with a runaway victory in the G3 Sapling Stakes at Monmouth Park. The colt previously posted a noteworthy victory in the Tyro Stakes over the same track, after having broken his maiden at Churchill Downs in July.

Settling off the pace in mid-pack during the 1200m race, She Digs Me was comfortable biding his time. Into the turn the chestnut kicked into gear to go wide and rolled down the stretch to a powerful eight length victory for trainer Steve Asmussen. The final time was a speedy 1:10.1.

Bred by Mike G. Rutherford, She Digs Me is the first foal for Stakes winning Valid Expectations mare Stage Stop, who is a full-sister to Stakes winner Valid Move The colt's second dam is Winning Move, also a Stakes winner.

Thus far, Henny Hughes is the sire of seven Stakes horses from his first two crops of runners. He has sired G3 winner Henny Hound as well as Stakes winners Fort Hughes and Midnight Visit from his first crop of runners, among others. Henny Hughes was a record-breaking World Champion Sprinter whose victories include the G1 King's Bishop Stakes and G1 Vosburgh Stakes. Henny Hughes stands this season for $16,500 (inc.
