Shamardal records yet another black type win in 2010

Four-year-old Shamardal mare Premardal salutes in the Starstruck Classic over a mile at Ascot, Western Australia

Off the back of a devastating length-and-a-half victory last start, four-year-old Shamardal mare Premardal led all the way to record a convincing two-length victory, defeating Exceed And Excel mare Valoura in the Listed Starstruck Classic at Ascot, Western Australia on December 11.

Starting favourite, Premardal was perfectly rated by jockey Clint Harvey and trained by namesake, Todd Harvey to outclass her rivals. It was the second Stakes win for this up and coming mare, who will now head towards the La Trice Classic on December 22, where if successful, she will earn her connections a $100,000 bonus for winning three legs of the four race series.

Bred by Darley Australia, Premardal is the fifth foal of the Rainbow Quest mare Prestigious, a three-quarter sister to the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Arazi, as well as the G1 Sussex Stakes winner Noverre. Prestigious currently has a full-sister yearling to Premardal and was covered by first-season sire Denman, the G1-winning son of the 11-time G1 winner Lonhro, this season.

Experiencing a stellar racing season, Shamardal has been represented by no fewer than 11 individual Stakes winners, with an overall career haul of 26, highlighted by G1 winners Captain Sonador, Casamento, Faint Perfume and Lope de Vega. Sure to be in high demand, Shamardal has 13 yearlings catalogued for January's Magic Million Premier yearling sale at the Gold Coast.
