Plain sailing for Harry’s Yacht in Chester Manifold

Harry’s Yacht has been a terrific money-spinner for connections and now the five-year-old gelding has a Listed Chester Manifold Stakes on his record and that of his sire Harry’s Angel.

Harry Angel sprinter-miler Harry’s Yacht has scored a well-deserved breakthrough Stakes victory, winning the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1,600m) with a tough on-pace performance.

In taking out the first Stakes race on Oaks day at Flemington on Thursday, the Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin-trained gelding has been a tremendous money-spinner for his owner-breeders who has won nine races and almost $1 million in prize money.

The Chester Manifold win, his first at Black-Type level after two previous placings, is Darley sire Harry Angel’s 26th individual Stakes winner and 10th southern hemisphere-bred Black-Type winner.

In a one-two for Darley sires, Street Boss’ Pinstriped finished runner-up by three quarters of a length. Comeback stayer Revelare finished third.

Larkin said a Listed win by five-year-old Harry’s Yacht, who ran fourth in the Five Diamonds Prelude at Randwick last start, wasn’t before time.

“When Just Folk came out of the race, it looked like there was no speed on paper. A few times he's been very frustrating when we were back in slow run races and just haven't been able to really run as well as we thought he was going,” Larkin said.

“He went up to Sydney, ran really well last start, came back very well and the mile was the question mark for our going in so we knew that if we were up there on a slower tempo, he should be able to run it out.”

The Supernova slot race at Pakenham looms as a late spring target for Harry’s Yacht.

Harry Angel stands at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 including GST.
