The perfect start

New Approach records his first winner with his first ever runner

First-season sire New Approach could not have made a better start to his stud career when, in the very first two-year-old race of the season in Ireland, his first ever runner Dawn Approach won in convincing style.

Settled in second position, Jim Bolger’s homebred took up the running as the field approached the final furlong and eased clear of his rivals close to home to win the 1000m contest by a length and three quarters.

Dawn Approach becomes the second winner from two runners out of Hymn Of The Dawn (Phone Trick). She is a half-sister to G1 performer Galantas and is from the family of G1 winners Miss Oceana and Kitwood.

New Approach himself recorded a perfect five victories from five starts as a juvenile, including a pair of G1 wins in the Dewhurst and the National Stakes. He went on to win not only the Derby, but also the English and Irish Champion Stakes, winning the former in record time.

New Approach has five yearlings catalogued for the forthcoming Inglis Easter yearling sale, including lot 256, the third foal from a half-sister to dual G1 winner Foxwood, the dam of G3-winning, G1 placed Rockwood and from the family of dual G1-winning Commands mare Purple. Another yearling of interest is the Glastonbury Stud-consigned lot 147, the second foal of the Lion Cavern mare Endless Charm, whose first foal is the Nadeem filly Total Attraction. Having had five starts to date for three wins, the Peter Moody-trained filly finished second last start in the G2 Fillies Classic over 1600m at Moonee Valley.
