Palomares powers to Flemington victory

Commands filly becomes the 35th Stakes winner for her sire

Having her first race at stakes level, the lightly raced three-year-old Commands filly Palomares became the sixth individual Stakes winner for her sire this racing season with a facile five length victory in the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate over 1400m.

Jumping away from an outside barrier, the Peter Snowden-trained filly was forced to sit wide throughout, but was always travelling well within herself.

Rounding the home turn, jockey Kerrin McEvoy released his grip on the reins and the filly, who races in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed, bounded away from the rest of the field to record an extremely impressive performance.

Bred by Woodlands Stud, the filly is the out of the Stakes performed Marauding mare Cataclysm. Closely related to fellow Commands Stakes winner El Cambio, Palomares kept her unbeaten record this season in tact with her third victory from as many starts.

Experiencing a stellar racing season, Commands' Stakes haul is highlighted by the G1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Erewhon, the lightly-raced G2-winning three-year-old Soul and the G3-winning New Zealand mare She Rules.

Currently sitting in fifth position on the leading sire table, Commands is one of only four stallions to finish in the top ten stallions on that table for the last five consecutive seasons, and is well on his way to replicate that again this season.

A G1-performing son of the legendary Danehill, Commands is currently covering this season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of S66,000 including GST.
