New juvenile Stakes winner for Iffraaj

Riyazan lands Star Appeal Stakes, with Lake Volta (Raven’s Pass) third

Iffraaj’s two-year-olds are flying this year and on Friday, 6 October, he became one of only three stallions in the UK to sire three Stakes-winning juveniles when his son Riyazan put up an impressive performance to take the Listed Star Appeal Stakes at Dundalk.

Riyazan was settled in fourth under Pat Smullen and making progress two furlongs out, took the lead close to home and battled gamely to win by half a length. Raven’s Pass’s useful son Lake Volta finished just a short head further back to take third and add further Black Type to his record.

Owned and bred by HH The Aga Khan, Riyazan is the first foal to race out of Riyaba (Dalakhani), herself a half-sister to Pretty Polly Stakes winner Riyalma.

Iffraaj, sire of eight G1 winners including star miler Ribchester, has now sired 15 individual Black Type winners this year. His other Stakes-winning two-year-olds are Prix Francois Boutin winner and G2 Champagne Stakes third Mythical Magic and Ascendant Stakes victor Chilean.
