A New era is upon us

New Approach records his second Royal Ascot winner with a hugely impressive victory for unbeaten filly Newfangled in the G3 Albany Stakes

New Approach, undoubtedly one of the most exciting first-season sires in Europe, recorded his second Group winner and second winner of the week at Royal Ascot when his daughter Newfangled ran out the convincing winner of the Albany Stakes.

Always prominent under William Buick, once asked to quicken two furlongs from home HRH Princess Haya’s filly had the race sewn up in a matter of strides, stretching clear of her rivals and running on superbly to win by two and a half lengths.

This was her second consecutive victory, having won by four and a half lengths on her debut at Newmarket earlier this month. Her trainer John Gosden indicated that she will now step up in class again, with the G2 Lowther Stakes cited as her next target, en route to a possible tilt at the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes.

Bred by Darley, Newfangled is out of the winning Machiavellian mare Scarlet Ibis, herself a daughter of G1 winner Flagbird. Scarlet Ibis’s three-parts sister Dubai Belle is dam of G1 winner Little Belle and they are from the family of leading sire Mineshaft.

On Tuesday, Dawn Approach became New Approach’s first Group winner when landing the Coventry. His other impressive first-time-out winner, Tha’Ir, lines up in Saturday’s Chesham Stakes.

New Approach stands at Northwood Park at a fee of $33,000 including GST.
