Moment Is Right is right in the moment

For a moment in deep stretch it appeared that the result of Belmont’s Astoria Stakes, run on June 4th, was going to be about Street Boss’s daughter Decked Out. Sent off as the favorite, Decked Out put a nose in front of Medaglia d'Oro’s Momet Is Right in the stretch but the latter was to have none of it, pulling ahead in the final strides for a hard-fought win.

Moment Is Right was quickest out of the gate in the five and one-half furlong event over the main track with Decked Out giving chase in second. It was pretty much a two-horse race from then on with the duo hooking up in mid-stretch before Moment Is Right got the better of her Darley-sired entry mate.

Moment Is Right was bred by Woodford Thoroughbreds in Kentucky and is out of Rite Moment, winner of the G2 Bed o’ Roses Handicap and the G2 Distaff Handicap.

Medaglia d’Oro is having a banner year in 2015 and is currently the second-ranked general sire by progeny earnings. No other North American sire has more blacktype winners than he does this year. Medaglia d’Oro’s 11 other Northern Hemisphere stakes winners include Mswawish, winner of the G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap earlier this year. In the Southern Hemisphere, three-year-old son Vancouver is the best of his crop with victories that include the historic G1 Golden Slipper.

Medagalia d'Oro will stand the upcoming breeding season at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST at Kelvinside.
