Lightly raced, heavily talented daughter of Too Darn Hot wins the Furious

The progressive, lightly raced filly Bangkok Hottie, a three-year-old daughter of Too Darn Hot, climbed the Princess Series rigging at Randwick on Saturday, September 5, with a smart win in the G2 Furious Stakes.

Ridden into a forward position by jockey Kerrin McEvoy, from the break the filly sat just off the speed and found deep reserves in the straight.

Pressed by the field, she edged ahead and didn’t surrender the lead, running a half-length victory for the 1,200 metres in a time of 1:09.30.

Trained by David Payne, Bangkok Hottie’s victory was her third in a career that started in April. She was a last-start second in the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes three weeks ago, and has been unplaced just once in six starts.

In the Furious Stakes, the second leg of the Sydney spring’s three-year-old fillies’ Princess Series, she met firm stakes company and answered it.

“We gave them a lot of start the other day (in the Silver Shadow Stakes), and I said to Kerrin to have her a bit handier today,” Payne said. “Kerrin was worried about getting her some cover, but she is just a very good filly.”

The veteran trainer said the filly would proceed to the 1,400-metre G2 Tea Rose Stakes and then the G1 Flight Stakes at the peak of the Sydney carnival.

“She is fit now,” Payne said. “She’s ready, so I just hope all goes well.”

Bangkok Hottie is a homebred for breeder John Thompson and a daughter of the Medaglia d’Oro mare Bangkok, who was stakes-placed, a seven-time winner, and who boasts a family of black-type credentials stretching from Brazil to South Africa.

The filly is the 18th Australasian stakes winner for Too Darn Hot, who has sizzled throughout this Australian spring with such recent stakes victors as American Eagle, a talented colt pitching for the upcoming sires’ races, and Bootlegger and Afireofgidgeecoals.

Bangkok Hottie represents her sire’s 37th worldwide stakes winner as Too Darn Hot continues to prove his commercial worth in both hemispheres. 

He has returned to Kelvinside at a fee of $275,000 incl. GST.
