Jungle Cat storms to a first G1 victory

Son of Iffraaj lands the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan

Godolphin’s Jungle Cat, a son of Iffraaj, landed his biggest career triumph when running out the winner of the G1 Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan. Coming into the race in the best form of his life, he ran on really well to the line under James Doyle to win by half-a-length.

Like the earlier Godolphin Mile winner Heavy Metal, Jungle Cat was trained at two by Mark Johnston when placing in four G2s at the major festivals. Transferred to Charlie Appleby, he has improved to win six more races including a victory in the G2 Al Fahdi Fort earlier this season.

Jungle Cat is a half-brother to seven winners including the Group performer Texas Wildcatter and three-time winner Future Reference (Raven’s Pass). He is out of the Stakes-winning Forest Wildcat mare Mike’s Wildcat.

Iffraaj is now the sire of nine top-flight winners including Ribchester, who has recently been announced as shuttling to Australia for their upcoming season. He is also sire of the Champion juvenile Wootton Bassett, now a very promising young stallion himself, and Classic winners Gingernuts, Jon Snow and Turn Me Loose.
