Jarrah Twist wins on debut for Hard Spun

Hard Spun records his sixth southern hemisphere juvenile winner

With no other Victorian-based first-season sire having recorded more individual winners in Australia than Hard Spun, the Rick Hore-Lacy-trained Jarrah Twist became his sires’ fifth winner in Australia on May 31, and sixth in the southern hemisphere.

Jumping away from the inside gate, jockey Noel Callow allowed the chestnut gelding to go along the rail and sit just off the leader. As the field headed for home, Jarrah Twist pulled himself up outside the leader and went on to record a very good length-and-a-quarter victory on his racetrack debut.

Out of the Bahhare mare Vicwood Fashion, a half-sister to HK-G3 winner Our Class and the Listed winner Dollops, Jarrah Twist was bred by Mr PD Dingwall of NSW, and comes from the family of G1 winner Lion Tamer (Storming Home) and the G2-winning, G1 placed Harris Tweed. Vicwood Fashion has a weanling colt by G2 Silver Slipper winner Shaft.

The sire of 20 Stakes horses including G2 winner Red Duke, G3 winner Hierro and the G1 performers Hard Not To Like and Zo Impressive, Hard Spun will stand the forthcoming southern hemisphere season at Darley’s Victorian base Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST).
