Impressive debutant for Hard Spun

Harden Up dazzles at Kranji

Hard Spun has been making a name for himself with first-crop winners in Australia this season and the G1-winning son of Danzig added another winner to his Australian-conceived runners when Harden Up made a winning debut at Kranji in Singapore on June 10.

Trained by Shane Baertschiger, Harden Up faced a field of 11 others but he gave nothing else a chance, jumping straight to the lead and then making all to score an impressive three-and-three-quarter length win in the Restricted 2&3YO Maiden over 1200m.

Bred by Gerry Harvey, Harden Up is out of the Zabeel mare Mother Flame and was sold as a yearling for $62,000 at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale where he was purchased by Baertschiger.

The sire of eight Stakes winners in the Northern Hemisphere, headed by the English G2 winner Red Duke, Hard Spun has the G3-placed Coins, the Melbourne metropolitan winners Crystal Web and Textiles as well as the impressive New Zealand winner Hayley's Comet from his first-crop runners in 2011-12.

Hard Spun will stand at Darley Victoria in 2012 at a fee of $16,500 inc GST.
