Horse of the Year Zenyatta to visit Bernardini

Following a remarkable first season for Bernardini in 2010, it has been announced that Horse of the Year Zenyatta will be bred to Darley’s Champion this breeding season

Mr and Mrs Jerome Moss have given a resounding endorsement to the strong appeal of Bernardini by announcing that their Horse of the Year Zenyatta will be making a trip to visit the son of A. P. Indy this breeding season.

Darley America’s President, Jimmy Bell, said “We are thrilled that Mr and Mrs Moss have chosen Bernardini as Zenyatta’s first mate. Having Zenyatta booked to Sheikh Mohammed’s homebred champion is extremely exciting.  We truly appreciate their decision and look forward to seeing the resulting foal in the Spring of 2012.”

Bernardini, the runaway winner of the G1 Preakness, G1 Travers and G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, is the only first-season sire ever to record G1 winners on dirt and turf, having been represented by Frizette Stakes winner A Z Warrior in America and Gran Criterium winner Biondetti in Europe. The classic winner is also sire of multiple G2 winner To Honor and Serve (Remsen and Nashua Stakes), plus G3 Prestige winner and G1-placed Theyskens' Theory among his 16 winners.

Bernardini’s first southern hemisphere crop of yearlings have already made a significant impact at the yearling sales, selling for up to $300,000. The triple G1 winner has ten yearlings catalogued for the New Zealand Premier yearling sale which commences on January 31, and a further 13 catalogued for the Inglis Premier yearling sale which starts in late February.
