Helmet Wins Sires

Handsome colt Helmet gives Exceed And Excel his second juvenile G1 winner, taking out the ATC Sires Produce Stakes at Randwick

The victim of a barrier mishap last start that prevented the son of Exceed And Excel from participating in the G2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes, Helmet displayed impeccable manners this time.

Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Helmet jumped cleanly and mustered early pace to position himself outside Ad Valorem colt, Uate. Displaying a brilliant turn of foot, the pair left their rivals in their wake and raced away to fight out the finish, with Helmet gaining the upper hand near the post. Taking the time honoured race by half a length, Helmet recorded his third win in succession with the previously undefeated Uate finishing second.

Bred by Darley Australia, Helmet  becomes the fourth two-year-old Stakes winner for Exceed And Excel this southern hemisphere season, joining Anevay, Chinchilla and Rebel Call. He is the second foal of the Singspiel mare Accessories, who has already produced the G3-winning, G1 performed Bullbars. Accessories has a Commands yearling named Epaulettes and a weanling by the G1 Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry.

The G1 victory tops off an exceptional week in Australia for Exceed And Excel, averaging $230,000 at this weeks’ Australian Easter Yearling Sale; and to be represented in utero by ten lots in the upcoming Australian Easter Broodmare Sale.
