Group Two victory for Shamardal colt

German-trained Zazou wins Oppenheim Union-Rennen

Continuing an excellent run for his sire after the exploits of dual Classic winner Lope De Vega, Shamardal three-year-old Zazou won the G2 Oppenheim Union-Rennen by two lengths at Cologne on Sunday.

Already the winner of the G3 Dr Busch Memorial earlier in the season, the Gestut Fahrhof-bred colt was scoring for the fourth time in just eight starts. He was also placed in the G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud last October.

Shamardal, who will be standing at Kelvinside for the forthcoming breeding season at a fee of $66,000 (inc. GST), is also the sire of VRC Oaks heroine Faint Perfume and the Australian Stakes winner Shamoline Warrior, Happy Hippy, Marquardt and Femina Fashion.
