Freedom Star shines bright in Iowa Distaff Stakes

Street Cry mare captures third Stakes win in a row

Freedom Star, a five-year-old mare by Street Cry, captured her third Stakes race in a row on June 24 at Prairie Meadows in the Listed Iowa Distaff Stakes at one and one-sixteenth miles. In March Freedom Star easily claimed victory in the G3 Azeri Stakes at Oaklawn, then returned later in the month with a wire-to-wire victory in the Harry Henson Handicap at Sunland Park.

The heavily favoured Street Cry mare broke well from the gate and took command at the front of the field. Maintaining a nice lead, Freedom Star accelerated in the home straight and continued on to defeat Medaglia d'Oro mare Bella Medaglia.

Freedom Star is the first foal out of the multiple Stakes winner Willie's Luv, by Williamstown, the earner of over $200,000. She is from the family of Monmouth G3 winner American Freedom as well as the sire It's Freezing. The mare was bred by Y. Kolybabiuk.

A leading international sire, Street Cry is the sire of USA Horse of the Year Zenyatta as well as the G1 winning Darley stallions Street Sense and Street Boss. Street Cry will stand the forthcoming southern hemisphere breeding season at $110,000 (inc GST) along Street Sense at $38,500 (inc GST) and Street Boss at $13,750 (inc GST).
