First stakes winner for New Approach

Dawn Approach remains unbeaten to land the Listed Rochestown Stakes at Naas

New Approach’s first-crop son Dawn Approach is now three wins for three starts after running out the easy two-length winner of the Listed Rochestown Stakes over 1200m at Naas in Ireland.

Having been his sire’s first winner on the opening day of the Irish turf season on 25 March, Dawn Approach followed that 1000m maiden win with another success on 16 May, over the same course and distance of his first black-type victory on Sunday.

Like New Approach himself, Dawn Approach is trained by Jim Bolger, who also bred the colt from the Phone Trick mare Hymn Of The Dawn. He will now head to Royal Ascot, where he could line up for either the Coventry Stakes or the Chesham Stakes, and has also been given a quote of 14/1 for next season's G1 2,000 Guineas.

New Approach, who will stand the forthcoming southern hemisphere breeding season in Victoria at Northwood Park for $33,000 (inc. GST), has had six runners in Europe to date, including New Falcon, who finished runner-up at Kempton on 28 May.
