First Stakes glory for Teofilo

His daughter Teolane lands the Listed Naas Fillies' Sprint Stakes in Ireland

Teofilo sired his first ever Stakes winner at his first attempt on Monday June 6, when his daughter Teolane justified favouritism when making all the running in the Listed Naas Fillies' Sprint Stakes over six-furlongs. A race often used as a preparation for Royal Ascot by Jim Bolger, she will now try to emulate Cuis Ghaire, who took this race in 2008 before landing the Albany Stakes at the Royal meeting.

A homebred for trainer Jim Bolger, his dam, the Erin's Isle mare Masnada, was a nine-time winner who also has a yearling full-brother to Teolane.

Teofilo, who will be standing this forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside for a fee of $22,000 inc GST, has made an excellent start to his stud career. As well as Teolane, he has sired two further impressive maiden winners in Parish Hall, an easy victor at Leopardstown and Mezmaar, rated 89P by Timeform after his very stylish debut at Haydock.

An unbeaten, dual G1-winning juvenile, Teofilo covered an extremely impressive line up of mares during his first southern hemisphere season which included G1 winners Tully Thunder and Not Related; the dams of G1 horses Gallant Tess, Black Bean and Regimental Gal; plus siblings and daughters of a further 15 G1 winners; the progeny of those matings are now selling as weanlings throughout the Australia and New Zealand.
