First Classic winner for Blue Point

Rosallion strikes in the G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas

Rosallion, Blue Point’s star first-crop son, notched his first G1 victory as a three-year-old when storming home to win the Irish 2,000 Guineas on Saturday, 25 May. Held up in midfield early, he conceded first run to Haatem in the straight before quickening impressively to catch him near the line.

A G1-winning juvenile when taking the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, Rosallion has now won four of his six starts plus an excellent second behind Notable Speech (Dubawi) in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Owned and bred by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum, Rosallion is a daughter of the unraced New Approach mare Rosaline, a half-sister to G1 Queen Anne hero Triple Time. It was also a fantastic day for the family after Inisherin (a Shamardal colt out of Rosaline’s half-sister Ajman Princess), won the G2 Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock Park.

Blue Point last year became the fastest first-crop sire to record 50 individual winners. As well as Rosallion, his winners included the G1 Breeder’s Cup winner Big Evs, who returned this season with an easy victory in the Listed Westow Stakes earlier this month at York.
