Brazen Beau sets new record at Inglis Classic

Shooting To Win and Street Boss also prove popular at the opening session of the inaugural sale at Riverside Stables.

The first Darley-sired yearling, and indeed the first yearling offered, at the 2018 Inglis Classic yearling sale, a colt by Shooting To Win (pictured below), got the opening session on Saturday, 10 February off to a strong start when selling for A$190,000.

The colt is from the winning Rahy mare Raheights, a half-sister to Brisbane Stakes winner Moulin Lady and English Stakes winner Bannock. His second dam, Laoub, is a half-sister to 2011 Canadian Horse of the Year Never Retreat.

Consigned by Torryburn Stud, the colt was purchased in partnership by prominent Chinese operation Yu Long Investments and Mick Price Racing.

Darley's freshman sire Brazen Beau also proved popular on the opening evening, with his son out of the Stakes-winning mare Written Dash, winner of the G3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes over 1,200m for three-year-olds, selling for A$480,000.

His purchasers, Orbis Bloodstock and Justin Bahen of Hong Kong, went head-to-head with Snowden Racing to secure Lot 76 (pictured below). The son of Brazen Beau on account of Tyreel Stud set a new record price for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

“I thought he was the best colt on the ground,” Bahen said.

“He is a lovely, well-balanced strong colt and he had a great brain on him. He continued to do as he was told from the time I saw him until the time he was in the ring tonight.”

The first yearling offered by Street Boss at the sale entered the auction ring to a flurry of bids. The filly, Lot 89 (pictured below), was knocked down for A$100,000 to Golden East Horse Pty Ltd on account of Riverina Downs.
