On the Express to the 2,000 Guineas

Dunboyne Express, a three-year-old son of Shamardal, wins the G3 2,000 Guineas Trial Stakes over a mile at Leopardstown

An impressive eight length winner of the G3 Anglesey Stakes as a juvenile, this was only his fourth career outing, and his first of 2011. After a delayed start, the son of Shamardal tucked in behind the other runners, taking the lead 200m from home and exerting his superiority to score an impressive two length victory.

Owned and bred by John Connaughton, Dunboyne Express is out of the Polish Precedent mare Love Excelling, a half-sister to Love Divine – dam of St Leger winner Sixties Icon.

This continues the great run of form for Shamardal who has sired this season's southern hemisphere G1 winner Captain Sonador, as well as further Stakes winners No Evidence Needed, Happy Hippy, Marquardt and Premardal, while in the northern hemisphere, he has been represented in 2010 by G1 Racing Post Trophy hero Casamento and the dual G1-winning Lope De Vega.

As we head into the upcoming Inglis Easter yearling sale which is set to commence on April 5, Shamardal has nine yearlings catalogued for the three day sale.
