Dream swoops to conquer in Derby Trial

Australian-bred Commands gelding successful in South Africa.

Progressive Commands three-year-old Conquered Dream delivered a strong hint of greater things to come when winning the Listed Derby Trial at Turffontein on Sunday.

Having won his last two starts, the Charles Laird-trained gelding started as odds-on favourite and gave his followers no reason for concern when landing the 2000m contest by two-and-a-half lengths.

Conquered Dream was bred in Queensland by Mr B M Nolan and was sold to race in South Africa as a yearling. He is out of the Star Watch mare Conquered, who has produced another black type performer by Commands, the AJC Brian Crowley Stakes winner War Of The Worlds.

This was the second Listed winner of the weekend for Commands, who is also the sire of two-year-old colt Skilled, winner of The Schweppervescence at Rosehill on Saturday. Three-year-olds Kanzan and Rarefied finished second and third in the Listed Telegraph Darby Munro Stakes on the same card.
