Darley Australia has announced the retirement to stud of Tentyris and Observer, standout colts of their generation, who will stand in New South Wales and Victoria, respectively for the 2026 breeding season.
Tentyris (Street Boss) retires as the winner of the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, recording the fastest time in the race’s history. The Coolmore Stud Stakes has produced more G1 sires than any other race in the past two decades.
He added the G1 Lightning Stakes at weight-for-age, becoming just the fourth three-year-old colt to win the race in the past 25 years. The other three winners in that period have all gone on to stand successfully at stud. At two, Tentyris won the G2 Todman Stakes and finished a short head second in the G1 Blue Diamond, placing him among the leading juveniles of his crop.
He is by Street Boss, sire of 4 G1 winners this season alone, out of an Exceed And Excel daughter of four-time G1 winner Divine Madonna.
Tentyris will stand his debut season at Kelvinside in New South Wales for $88,000 inc GST.
Darley Australia announces two new stallions for 2026
Observer (Ghaiyyath) retires as a dual G1 winner of the Australian Guineas and Victoria Derby, a five-length maiden winner at two, and a four-time Group winner from 1,400m through to 2,500 metres.
Observer is the best-performed son of Ghaiyyath to retire to stud to date. Ghaiyyath, the world’s highest rated horse in 2020, is by Dubawi, one of the leading sires globally. Observer is out of a full sister to Pierro, Champion two-year-old and successful sire. He becomes the first Guineas winner from the Dubawi sire line to stand in Australia since Night Of Thunder.
Observer will stand at Northwood Park in Victoria for $33,000 inc GST.
“Tentyris and Observer are two of the best horses of their generation,” said Alastair Pulford, Head of Stallions at Darley.
“They’ve won the right races, against the right opposition, and both bring pedigrees that consistently produce at the highest level. Breeders know better than anyone how thin the market is for elite new locally raced stallions this season.
“We’ve seen strong early interest in both and are already speaking with breeders as they plan for the season.”
Darley Australia will announce its full 2026 stallion roster and fees on Thursday at 3pm.
