Chilean on the rise at Haydock

Two-year-old son of Iffraaj takes the Ascendant Stakes by three and a half lengths

Iffraaj recorded a new juvenile Black Type winner in fine style on Saturday, 9 September when his son Chilean ran out the easy winner of the Listed Ascendant Stakes, run over a mile at Haydock.

Despite racing keenly early on, Martin Meade’s charge came with a powerful run a furlong from home to sweep past his rivals and win going away by three and a half lengths. Dee Ex Bee (Farhh) provided his first-season sire with a new Stakes performer when finishing third.

This was the second consecutive victory for Chilean, who broke his maiden just ten days ago.

Bred by Ed’s Stud Ltd, Chilean is the first foal to race out of the Stakes-winning mare Childa (Duke Of Marmalade). Childa has a two-year-old filly by first-season sire Dawn Approach.

Iffraaj is enjoying an outstanding year, siring three G1 winners, headed by Lockinge and Queen Anne hero Ribchester – who lines up in tomorrow’s G1 Prix du Moulin at Chantilly.

Iffraaj stands under the Darley banner at Haunui Stud in New Zealand at a fee of NZ$25,000 plus GST.
