Blue Tosca takes out Malaysian Group One

Canny Lad gelding wins the Sultan Gold Vase

One of 50 individual Stakes winners for his veteran sire Canny Lad, Blue Tosca record his second Stakes victory and eighth win overall, winning the Listed (Mal G1) Sultan Gold Vase over 1100m at Ipoh on July 24.

Sent out the nominal favourite in the local G1 event after a last start dead–heat win at Stakes level, Blue Tosca did not let his supports down, scoring by a half-length from Binatng Terang.

Bred by Gooree Park Stud, Blue Tosca is the first named foal of the Desert King mare Desert Bride. From the family of local G2 winner Dreamscape as well as international Stakes winners Salsa Inglesa, Festival Hall, Hymn, Dragonet and Re Thong, Blue Tosca has been a model of consistency, finishing in the top three on 17 occasions from 23 race starts.

A winner of the G1 Golden Slipper as two-year-old, Canny Lad has proven his diversity as a sire, producing top-level winners from 1100m to 2400m. The sire of 21 individual G1-performers, Canny Lad will stand the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).
