Speedy Bivouac mare Cavalry Girl led all the way to claim her third stakes win from her past five starts, setting a new race record in the G2 Henley Homes Sprint at Caulfield.
A last-start runner-up in the G1 Moir Stakes, Cavalry Girl carried the expectations of the market and never gave her backers any concerns. Craig Williams took her straight to the front, where she stayed, winning by one and a quarter lengths from Don’t Hope Do, with Bev’s Nine in third.
The victory, achieved in a race-record 56.37 seconds, took her record to eight wins from 19 starts, including the G3 Norman Carlyon Stakes in August and the Listed Lightning Stakes at Morphettville in July.
Trainer Tom Dabernig said Cavalry Girl will likely head to a 1,000m stakes race over the Flemington carnival as she continues to build an impressive sprinting record.
“There's a couple of straight races, there's one on Melbourne Cup Day and whether we consider the 1100m now. She is a 1000m specialist, so we'll try and get her there and then concentrate on the autumn I think,” he said.
She is one of eight stakes winners for triple G1 winner Bivouac, six of which have come from his first crop, of which Cavalry Girl is a member along with G1-winning pair Beiwacht and Fireball Miss.
Australia’s Champion Second-Season Sire in 2025/26, Bivouac is standing at $33,000 inc GST at Darley Kelvinside in 2026.
