Bernardini colt brings $800k at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga

Price is highest for a colt on day two of the sale

Even before hip number 112 entered the ring on the second and final day of the Fasig-Tipton Sale in Saratoga Springs, New York, there was a distinct buzz around the sales grounds that this was one yearling that just might be something special. Of course, it will be a while before we truly know just how special he is, but the bay colt by Bernardini didn't disappoint, bringing a final sales price of $800,000.

Presented for sale by Gainesway Farm, the yearling is out Tweeter, of a winning daughter of Unbridled's Song and a half-sister to Champion and G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Bird Town and to G1 Belmont Stakes winner Birdstone. John Ferguson was the buyer.

Medaglia d'Oro, who made quite an impression on the sale's first night with prices including $675,000, $400,000 and $400,000, was once again drawing the attention of buyers, especially when it came to hip number 121. Debby Oxley was the eventual high bidder at $625,000 for the bay filly out of a full sister to G1 winner Any Given Saturday. Taylor Made Sales Agency was the selling agent.

Bernardini will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $33,000 inc. GST alongside Medaglia d'Oro who is standing at $55,000 inc. GST.
