Bernardini all the buzz on day two

Weanling by World Champion three-year-old makes $110,000 on the Gold Coast

Day two of the Magic Millions National Weanling sale saw World Champion three-year-old Bernardini provide the second top selling weanling by a freshman sire. Consigned by Rothwell Park, the bay colt is out of the Palace Music mare Tennis, from the family of G3 winner Nediym’s Glow, G1 performer Red Colossus and the G1 New Zealand Oaks winner Starline. Knocked down to New Zealand-based Paul Walker, the colt achieved $110,000 at the fall of the hammer.

Rothwell Park were also responsible for offering the second top lot by Bernardini (pictured) of the day. Entering the ring as lot 463, the brown colt is out of the stakes-performed Bin Ajwaad mare Dance Class. A half-sister to the recent Commands Stakes performer Moulin Rouge, the colt was purchased by Shane Moore of Victoria for $85,000.

Barn-mate Street Sense had another promising day, equaling his day one top-priced seller. Purchased by Ong Tiong Seng of Singapore, the bay filly was another offering from leading vendor Rothwell Park. From the family of G1 winner Rechabite, the filly was one of two weanlings to sell by the record-breaking G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner on the second day. Currently averaging a healthy $75,200 for his five yearlings to sell, Street Sense is the leading freshman sire after two days of selling with Bernardini sitting in second.

Proven sires Shamardal and Commands both enjoyed considerable success during the second day of selling. Sire of this season’s dual G1-winning filly Faint Perfume, Shamardal provided the second top-seller of the day, realising $170,000 to the bid of Patinack Farm. Sold early in the day, the bay colt is a full-brother to the promising two-year-old colt Mundi Gully, from the family G1 Blue Diamond winner Knowledge.

Rothwell Park were once again in the fray, presenting lot 394, a brown colt  by this season’s G1 producing sire Commands. Knocked down to New Zealand Bloodstock agent Paul Beamish for $140,000, the colt is one of eight weanlings sold by the son of Danehill.

The sale continues tomorrow with the final day of weanlings.
